Consultant to Identify Certification and Sustainability Tools
The Government of The Bahamas has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments under the Revitalization of the Sponging Industry for the services of a Consultant to produce Exporting tools to allow locally produced items to be sold in the international market.
The Consultant will be required to:
- Complete the application process for denomination of origin
- Facilitate the examination process for denomination of origin
- Ensure registration is complete for denomination of origin
- Sample sponges to be tested for sustainability certification
- Work with the board of a newly incorporated association to develop declarations: environmental and social
- Provide proof of best practice conformance
- Complete application process for sustainability certification
Duration: This assignment is expected to be concluded in 3 months
Deliverables:
- Denomination of origin
- Sustainability certification
Qualifications/Experiences/Competencies:
- At least a Master’s degree in Natural or Marine Science, or other related fields
- At least 5-years of experience working with grass root organizations and small communities
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- A good knowledge of the local Fisheries and Agri-business Sectors

Consultants will be selected in accordance with procedures set out in the Inter-American Development Bank: Policies for the Selection and Contracting of Consultants financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (GN-2350-7) and is open to all eligible consultants as defined in the policies.
