Consultant to Establish Market Linkages

The Government of The Bahamas has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments under the Revitalization of the Sponging Industry for the services of a Consultant who will work in partnership with project partners to determine the local sponge industry baselines.

The Consultant will be required to:

  • Develop a national and international sales plan (including setting up the price of the services and products)
  • Define productivity targets
  • Identify and develop distribution channels
  • Identify, analyze, and build relationships with potential clients – presenting Bahamas Commercial Spongers Association’s (BCSA) products and services
  • Set up meetings between client/decision makers, BAIC’s project steering committee, and board members of BCSA
  • Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the unique selling propositions and differentiators
  • Forecast sales targets and ensure that they are met
  • Present to and consult with the project’s steering committee and BCSA on competitive trends and recommend solutions to develop appropriate strategies to combat and to improve products, and services
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns that will lead to an increase in clients and sales nationally and internationally
  • Collaborate with BAIC’s project Communications Coordinator to design and implement a communications strategy plan to increase awareness of the achievements of the project and its beneficiaries

Duration: 1 year

Deliverables:

  • National and international sales plan
  • Monthly reports to inform BAIC of ongoing sales activities
  • Final Report detailing all sales activities including ‘No’, ‘Yes’, and ‘In-progress’ sales

Qualifications/Experiences/Competencies:

  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience selling niche market products nationally and internationally – master’s degree in related field is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of business development strategies – successfully launching at least one product into the local market, and at least one product into the international market
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills
  • Excellent negotiation and sales skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Consultants will be selected in accordance with procedures set out in the Inter-American Development Bank: Policies for the Selection and Contracting of Consultants financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (GN-2350-7) and is open to all eligible consultants as defined in the policies.
