The Government of The Bahamas has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments under the Revitalization of the Sponging Industry for the services of a Consultant who will report to the Project Coordinator and work in partnership with project partners to develop communication channels; ensure public awareness; and ensure project’s visibility.

The Consultant will be required to:

  • Design and implement a communications strategy and plan to increase awareness of the achievements of the project and its beneficiaries
  • Work in concert with BAIC’s Project Coordinator, Sales Coordinator, Branding Consultant, Bahamas Commercial Spongers Association’s (BCSA) board, stakeholders, beneficiaries and donors to develop activities that highlight and showcase the work of the association, and donor contributions to the project
  • Organize and coordinate press events for the project and its beneficiaries. Following up with media to ensure coverage of public events
  • Assist BCSA, and the project’s Steering Committee in developing appropriately branded public information, documentations, briefs, and events
  • Design, and develop all didactic material, and activities to advertise the association’s products to target audience and media, including outreach folders and fact sheets, newsletters, blog entries, tweets, brochures, website, videos and PSA campaigns for broadcast and print media
  • Draft, design, and publish How-to Guide of the association’s business model
  • Travel to the sites in Andros to get to know the project and capture success stories for dissemination through website, outreach folders and to media
  • Maintain a calendar of project events in close coordination with the Steering Committee and Bahamas commercial Spongers Association
  • Maintain project social media presence.

  • Final Report detailing all work completed and its impact.


  • A minimum of ten years of professional experience in development communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field - master’s degree is preferred.
  • Capability and proven experience in crafting and implementing public relations strategies with an eye toward results-based management.
  • Capability and proven experience crafting messages in various formats (press releases, websites, success stories, blog entries, tweets, etc.) targeting a variety of audiences
  • Familiarity with branding compliance
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
