BAIC trains Exuma farmers

March 31, 2010

Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation’s Farmers Empowerment Express rolled through Exuma recently training executives and members of the Exuma Farmers Association in better business practices.Conducting the training were deputy general manager Don L Major and assistant general manager for agriculture Arnold Dorsett. The sessions covered recordkeeping and pricing, and group dynamics.

The training was important for two reasons, noted Mr Major. The Association has purchased and stocked, at reduced costs, inputs and supplies for its members, and needed to ensure they were re-sold at an appropriate price, he said. And, the Association members “needed to understand and ensure the proper pricing of their produce, so that they could sell to buyers at an affordable price and make a decent profit,” Mr major explained.

The training and reduced cost of purchasing supplies and inputs were among the benefits of joining the Association, he said. The sessions were organized by BAIC’s Domestic Investment Officer, former long-time Administrator/Commissioner, Everett Hart.  BAIC’s junior officer Antionette Bullard-Bain from the head office also accompanied the team.  The next stop for the Farmers Empowerment Express is Eleuthera.
